The E. WOOD business was established by Ebeneezer Wood, as a limited company in 1882 in the docklands area of London to make and sell paints and varnishes.
The company remained in London until 1940 when operations were moved to a Greenfield site at Stanstead Abbots in Hertfordshire, on the outskirts of London
During the period from 1945 to 1987, the company expanded its activities and moved into the evelopment and manufacture of industrial coatings, decorative coatings and specialised repair materials. A reputation was established as a manufacturer of high quality coatings and compositions for almost any type of industry or environment.
Over the years, the company underwent many changes, not least of which was a move from the premises in Hertfordshire to Northallerton, North Yorkshire in June 1987.
Following this move, E. Wood?s business has grown rapidly under the brand names of THORTEX and COPON.
The Copon name is synonymous with high performance coatings for use in the Oil, Gas, Water, Rail and Automotive Industries. In these industries, Copon has established a reputation for the supply of high performance, environmentally friendly coatings, which will provide a high degree of protection to the surfaces involved.
In 1988, E. Wood introduced the brand name of Thortex and under this banner, developed a range of industrial maintenance coatings and compositions, with a particular emphasis on buildings and structural maintenance.
