Beijing Aeronautical Manufacturing Technology Research Institute (BAMTRI in short) under China Aviation Industry Corporation I was established in July, 1957. It is a sole and comprehensive research institute for conducting research and development work on aeronautical manufacturing technologies and equipment. The institute has about 1400 staffs, among whom 55% are technical personnel numbering about 800 academician, professors and senior engineers. The institute covers an area of 330000 square metres, among which 93000 square metres is for research and production. There are over 40 research subjects and 3600 sets of machining equipment, special purpose testing equipment as well as insruments and meters. The institute possesses assets up to RMB 253 millions and has strong ability of manufacturing technology research and special equipment development.

In the over 40 years since its founding, BAMTRI has offered a large number of advanced manufacturing technologies and equipment for the development of new type aircrafts, aeroengines and technical renovations to aircraft manufacturers as well as other fields in defence industries, such as aerospace, electrionics and weapons. Both its achievements in CNC FSM system, computer application software, high energy density beam(HEDB) processing, advanced electric machining, non-conventional welding, composite structure manufacture, honeycomb adhesive bonding, sheet metal forming, mechanical joining and assembling, NDT and transducers, and production organization management are in the leading position. About 27 laboratories including National Key Laboratory for High Energy Density Beam Processing Technology, Key Laboratory for Aviation Joining Technology, Key laboratory of Aeronautical Science and Technology for Numerical Control Manufacuturing Technology and AVIC R&D Center for Resin Matrix Composite Structure Manufacturing Technology have been set up in the institute. The trial production lines and small-batch production lines possessed by the institute have the capability to undertake the production tasks of resin matrix composite structures, SPF/DB structures, metal honeycomb sealing rings, aeronautical titanium alloy fasteners, adhesive bonded honeycombs, as well as FMS machining and small hole drilling for aeroengines.

After the "Reformation and Opening" policy adopted by China government, BAMTRI has made active contacts and technical exchanges with foreign countries. Since recent years, BAMTRI has gained the import & export business right, and several products such as pharmaceutic equipment etc. Have been exported to more than 10 countries and regions. Up to now relationships based on technical exchanges and economic cooperations have been established with more than 40 nations and areas including USA, Russia, Germany, France etc. At the same time, BAMTRI has made great efforts to transfer its scientific achievements to production abilities of civil industries. Now a great number of CNC machine tools, non-conventional welding equipment, advanced electric machining equipment and sheet metal forming equipment are supplied and these have made a great contribution to China national economic construction.
