Andrews Space companey's Technical competencies include product/system development, space system design, propulsion system design, systems engineering, and business analysis Our current endeavors: Smalltug Technology Flight Experiment: An on-going human and robotic exploration initiative will require highly efficient cargo transport from Low Earth Orbit to lunar space. Andrews is investigating the following technologies to achieve those efficiencies -N-Body Orbital Mechanics - This approach explores extremely low delta-v trajectories between planetary bodies and their associated Lagrange points. -Solar Concentrator Array with Refractive Linear Element Technology (SCARLET) -Hall Thruster demonstration Versatile Integrated Space Transportation Architecture (VISTA): As part of NASA's Exploration Initiative, Andrews Space is undertaking a study examining mission architecture for Orbital, Lunar, and Extra-Lunar Missions. Andrews is conducting a "Systems of Systems" approach to mission architecture called Versatile Integrated Space Transportation Architecture (VISTA) VISTA builds on heritage achievements (Apollo, ISS, Shuttle) and leverages scientific (orbital mechanics, program economics) and technology (ISRU, RLV) advances of the last 50 years. Crew Exploration Vehicle: As part of NASA's Exploration Initiative, Andrews Space is undertaking a study examining design concepts for a Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV). Andrews Space has proposed a CEV architecture that exploits existing hardware, facilities, and launch vehicles. The Point of Departure (POD) CEV is a reusable 4-person reentry vehicle and an expendable service module. For missions beyond LEO, a common Orbital Transfer Vehicle is used. Variable Drag Attached Ballute: Andrews? active ballute technology permits tactical satellite/subsystem recovery and has the following advantages over other technologies -Reduces landing dispersions -Tailored heating and deceleration -Offers aerocapture trajectory control -Lower weight than aeroshells -High packing efficiencies -Low cost Advanced Power and Propulsion: Andrews Space is currently involved in the development of advanced power and propulsion systems designed to reduce the cost of Earth-to-Orbit launches, as well as reduce travel time for inter-planetary missions. Advanced power and propulsion systems will provide safe, routine, and economical access to space.
