The demand for casting materials has been huge as casting materials are the pre-requisite for starting Textile Mills/ units. In response to a tremendous growth of raw materials, a series of small-scale industries (SSI) were started during the same period. Raw materials such as Pig- iron, Coke were not available sufficiently to these small-scale units and were primarily given to the large-scale sectors. This was considered as a major drawback for the foundries in the small-scale sector. The concerned SSI associations failed to represent a serious grievance to the government. In such a crisis situation , The Coimbatore Small and Tiny Founders Association was started in 1980 with 250 members. Mr. D. Rajendran and Mr. R.Jayapal founders as well as the representatives of the organisation, represented this issue of raw material unavailability to the Government, requesting equal distribution of Pig iron and Coke to both large and Small Scale Foundry Industries.
